Description Yousuf Philips (jay) (retired) 2015-10-27 00:07:21 UTC
Steps:
1) Open Writer
2) Hide the sidebar
3) Open Impress through the New button
4) Sidebar will be hidden

The sidebar is an essential component of impress and draw and should always be open.

Yes it is probably correct that Impress should open with the Sidebar active in almost all instances. But until bug 67770 is resolved in some fashion--it is going to have to be hard coded to force it to open--as opposed to taking its state from the current LO session.

Please add keyword 'needsUXEval' and CC 'libreoffice-ux-advise@lists.freedesktop.org' if input from UX is needed.

We discussed this topic in the design meeting and recommend to store the state (normal/expanded, collapsed/only the tabs are shown, hidden) per module (the minimized state should be removed, see bug 137118). Raising the importance since Impress heavily relies on the sidebar.

This is related to my request added on the link below, which is asking for per-module/app settings for the sidebar as I always use Writer with it showing and Calc with it hidden.
