@Jay, huh? There is no new document list other than the vertically arranged buttons. But if adding to that is what you meant, then perhaps a split button (like now for Templates) for the Writer button? And possibly also do entries for some of the other items on File -> New menu? Stuart (In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #1) > @Jay, huh? > > There is no new document list other than the vertically arranged buttons. Sorry i meant vertically. :D > But if adding to that is what you meant, then perhaps a split button (like > now for Templates) for the Writer button? Yes this is what i meant but i dont think a split button is good as it would be useful to emphasis that LO can be used to create HTML documents. Writer Web has its own dedicated section in Tools > Options and it acts different from other writer sub-components. > And possibly also do entries for some of the other items on File -> New menu? All the other ones are all Writer sub-components, so a split button for these. @Jay, (In reply to Jay Philips from comment #2) > Yes this is what i meant but i dont think a split button is good as it would > be useful to emphasis that LO can be used to create HTML documents. Writer > Web has its own dedicated section in Tools > Options and it acts different > from other writer sub-components. I could see emphasizing the Writer/Web HTML Document if we actually had any support for external CSS2/3 style sheets, or HTML 4/5. But as we don't really even support WYSIWYG markup--having to work in HTML source view mode to edit markup and any inline style, which then does not remember its position when toggling back to Web view--LibreOffice's HTML Document feature is not what folks would expect, and so should not be accorded its own Start Center button. An item on a split button dropdown, perhaps paired with the Web Page Wizard, would be about all the emphasis it merits. @Stuart, thanks for the clarity. I was thinking that LO had better html support, but if its as bad as you say it is then there isnt a need. :D The vertical list of buttons is not meant to house every file type LibreOffice is capable to create anyway. It’s just a way to open one of our six applications. Let’s not clone Microsoft Works here. +1 on what Stuart said, Writer/Web doesn’t function as an average IDE and is severely lacking w.r.t. HTML’s newer standards (even when Sun was still around, the component was already outdated). |
