promote / denote pictogram suggestion

hi,

right now in Navigator, we have these 2 options:

upward / downward double triangles
or
left or right double triangles

The up / down ones work...
But the "back to the beginning" or "jump to the end" or "fast forward" or "fast rewind" ones don't....

The solution that offers itself is the "volume" (sound) icon that we see
at the "show up to outline level" (of) dropdown...

That icon could be used, accompanied with an arrow, up or downward, on the right side, and the fact that it is "promoting" or "denoting" would be visually clear...

I do not understand your request. Currently we have from left to right: "Promote Outline Level", "Demote Outline Level", "Move Heading Up" and "Move Heading Down".

Which feature do you miss?

hi,

Nothing is missing.
But I didn't say the point...

The promote / denote buttons have misleading, illogical icons.
This is what I must have meant by "don't work" :)
SORRY!

So, they are illogical.
They point back and ahead.
However, promoting and denoting "happens" along a vertical axis :)

"Move heading up" is cool with the upward double arrow.
But promote with the rightward double arrow doesn't feel logical.

This is why I was suggesting an alternative.
I mean, why I suggested (and suggest) that an alternative would be great...

Some icons that depict moving upwards or downwards, but are different from the heading moving icons...
(which represent physical moving )

One can learn it, sure...
But logic and logical transparency in icon culture is a key thing as I see...
Otherwise, an ice cream icon or a birdie would be suffice, too :)

An iconography issue, best left to the icon theme designers.

Currently only Rizal's "Karasa Jaga" icon theme uses a stylized outline for both demote/promote outline and move up/down of headings.

Our other icon themes use single triangle/arrow pointers, with just the "Colibre" icon theme using a double pointer motif by default on Windows.

Personally I have no issue with the "Colibre" theme on Windows, and not clear it is necessary to shift all artwork for the button icons to something other than direction pointers.

-1 from me.

We discussed the topic in the design meeting.

While the arrow-like symbols may depict the function clearly for LTR users it is completely misleading in case of RTL - which has been reported in bug 154523.
