Description Ben 2017-07-09 19:29:57 UTC
A reference to a Bibliography entry can be created in two ways:

1. Insert
2. Table of Contents, Index, or Bibliography
3. Type: Bibliography
3. Tab: Type
4. Brackets []

5. Insert
6. Table of Contents, Index, or Bibliography
7. Bibliography Entry
8. Select Short name from drop down menu
9. Insert

When you want to find a Bibliography entry in a long document you will have to do this manually by scanning through all pages of the document. It does not appear to be possible to perform a search of the type [10]. Hence, finding entries becomes very time consuming in large documents.

A slightly less consuming way to find entries is the following manner:

1. Insert
2. Table of Contents, Index, or Bibliography
3. Type: Bibliography
3. Tab: Type
4. Brackets [none] <<---

5. Insert
6. Table of Contents, Index, or Bibliography
7. Bibliography Entry
8. Select Short name from drop down menu
9. Insert

In this way you can at least perform a search on the [ bracket, but it is still very time consuming in large documents.

I suggest to implement a search capability covering also Bibliographic entries. This would allow, for example, searches of type [10] and 10. An alternative would be to show the entries in Navigator to allow jumping to the reference of the Bibliography entry in the document.

Sounds reasonable, and I cannot find a duplicate.

The inability to locate Bibliography entries using the FIND function is a major oversight. Without automatic FIND, and in order to update the Bibliography, the user has to locate the Biblio entries by visual inspection of the document – a tedious and error-prone procedure.

Just a thought: perhaps Bibliography entries could be made to show up as a list in the Navigator, just like hyperlinks.
